The Coast Inn has a long and storied history in Laguna Beach and, amazingly, the history has been well documented. Original construction for the Inn was completed in 1929—when Laguna Beach was a sleepy little town of under 2,000 people known for its ocean coves and beautiful coastal mountains. The Coast Inn was a family hotel—built and run by the Smith family for nearly 50 years. It captured the ups and downs of American life—the Great Depression welcomed the new hotel into business in ’29. Servicemen enjoyed retreat there during World War II. It flourished in good times and hard.
In the years following retirement of the second-generation Smiths in 1978, the hotel was bought and sold many times and may have lost a bit of its luster—but its history is still alive and well. Laguna Beach and Las Vegas real estate investment firm DIG, principals Chris and Marcella Dornin, purchased the hotel in 2013 and are now in design to bring back the charm of the Coast Inn. Major seismic upgrades will be performed to accommodate the new architectural design. Wright Engineers is pleased to be teamed with SMS Architects on this outstanding restoration project!

NORTH SIERRA LUXURY RENTALS
What was once the Money Tree Casino in downtown Reno will be getting new life as a luxury live-work space with apartment lofts, conference rooms, retail, and a rooftop deck bar and lounge. Four new units added to the roof will each have their own private patio deck. The 20 ft. plus floor to floor heights allow for plenty of room to build second-level lofts in the apartment units. The basement level will be converted to subterranean parking. The project is being developed by Alamo Equities. Bunnyfish Studio is the project’s architect. Construction is expected to begin early in 2021.
