Wright Engineers’ Executive Vice President, Scott Jones, presented this month at the 2021 Louisiana Civil Engineering Conference in New Orleans. Scott’s lecture was based on his three-part article series, “Error Checking and the Black Box” published in Structure Magazine. Scott reported that the conference was outstanding, the New Orleans architecture is cool, and the food was superb!
UTAH CONSTRUCTION & DESIGN MAGAZINE 2021 MOST OUTSTANDING
The Magnolia, a 65-unit permanent supportive housing complex in Salt Lake City was named Utah Construction & Design Magazine 2021 Most Outstanding Projects in the Multi-Family/Affordable Housing category. The Magnolia was constructed as part of Salt Lake City’s initiative to provide more adequate services to the homeless. “We can’t thank Bonneville Builders enough,” said David Winn, Wright Engineers VP and Director of Utah Operations. “They were great to team with on the project and the award submission.” The project is a joint venture with Salt Lake City, 5th Magnolia LLC, and Cowboy Partners. Prescott Muir Architects is the project’s architect. Wright Engineers provided structural engineering services.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROJECT OF THE YEAR
Matter Park at West Henderson was recently named Economic Development Project of the Year at the Henderson Annual Economic Development Awards. The award recognizes a project that contributes significantly to job creation and economic expansion in the community. The project features multiple buildings including the home of the Las Vegas Raiderettes and the future practice facility and home of the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA. The design-build team was led by Burke Construction Group. Lee & Sakahara is the project’s architect. Wright is the structural engineer.
ICF ALTERNATIVE TO WOOD FRAMING
Insulated Concrete Forms or ICF provided a cost-effective alternative to wood construction for a 6-story, 137 key Cambria Hotel in Glendale, Arizona designed by DesignCell Architects. ICF walls provide foam insulation both sides and an interior reinforced concrete structure, resulting in a wall that is both strong and energy-efficient. ICF is also thought be less labor-intensive than wood framing. More information on this project can be found here. Wright is the structural engineer.
