ENGINEERING THE FUTURE OF K-12 AND HIGHER-ED

In the world of structural engineering, the design and construction of schools and educational buildings stand as a unique and critical challenge. These structures must not only provide a safe and supportive environment for students and faculty but also be designed to withstand the test of time and adapt to evolving educational needs.  Wright Engineers has established itself as a trusted partner in this arena.  Our Education Engineering team has a wealth of experience and expertise in the structural engineering of successful K-12 schools, higher education institutions, libraries, gymnasiums, and other educational facilities located in multiple states.  Projects currently in design or under construction include four high schools, a middle school, and an elementary school.

BRET TARVER TERRACE

On March 14, 2001, Phoenix firefighter and paramedic Bret Tarver became disoriented in the thick smoke and flames while battling a 5-alarm fire at a supermarket.  Bret’s fellow firefighters responded to his call for help, but tragically, by the time he was located and brought out Bret had succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning.  Since the tragedy, every firefighter in Phoenix is now trained in the “Tarver Drill” where they learn the warning signs of a FLASHOVER and the survival techniques. A FLASHOVER is a thermally-driven event during which every combustible surface exposed to thermal radiation in a compartment or enclosed space rapidly and simultaneously ignites

Today, a new 96-unit affordable housing apartment complex, named Bret Tarver Terrace in his honor, will soon be under construction in downtown Phoenix being built near the place of the incident.  The complex will provide affordable rent for families whose income is at or below 60% of the Phoenix median income.  H&B Builders expects construction to be completed in 2025.  UMOM is the project’s Developer.  Perlman Architects is the architect for the project and Wright Engineers is proud to be the structural engineer.

EDGEWAY DOWNTOWN BELLFLOWER

Located on Bellflower Blvd and Oak Street in downtown Bellflower, California, the Edgeway Downtown Bellflower mixed-use development is just one block from the future West Santa Ana Metro Line.  The 91-unit, 5-story building sits above an enclosed subterranean parking garage.  Amenities include a resort-style pool and spa, fitness center, rooftop terrace, and clubhouse.  Next door is 15,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space.  The project was developed by Serrano Development Group and built by Pacific Empire Builders.  Wright Engineers is proud to have provided the structural engineering services.
