Wright Engineers is pleased to announce its recent acquisition of STB structural engineers, a Southern California structural engineering firm founded in 1962 and highly regarded for their expertise in K-12 and higher ed facilities.

“With this strategic acquisition, Wright Engineers is stronger and better, and our clients are the beneficiary,” said Scott Jones, Wright Engineers’ Executive VP and Director of California Operations. “This represents a significant milestone in our firm’s growth, and we’re thrilled to add STB’s strength and experience to our own.”

Among STB’s many successful recent projects is the Tustin Legacy Magnet Academy (pictured above), a grades 6 – 12 Technology, Innovation, Design, and Entrepreneurship (TIDE) magnet school.  The architectural design pays homage to the iconic World War II blimp hangars on the nearby Marine Corps Air Station Tustin.  In addition to education facilities, STB also has an impressive resume of industrial, office, and commercial buildings.

Doug Thompson, SE, former STB President, will act as Structural Director in Wright’s Orange County office.  In addition to leading STB for the past several decades, Doug is the author of numerous structural engineering articles and publications and is a nationally sought-after lecturer.  He has served as a member of the Mayor’s Earthquake Technical Task Force for the City of Los Angeles and is a past president of the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC).

“We are excited about the opportunities this acquisition brings,” said Doug. “By leveraging our expertise with Wright Engineers’ well-established reputation and resources, we can offer an even higher level of service and support to all of our clients.”

Wright Engineers will ensure that STB’s clients continue to receive the same great service that they’ve come to expect from Doug and his team.

Wright Engineers bids farewell to a true industry leader as David Winn, VP and Director of Utah Operations, announces his retirement after a remarkable tenure spanning 20 years.

David joined Wright Engineers as a project manager in Las Vegas in 2003 and quickly stood out as a dedicated and capable structural engineer.  In August of 2006, when Wright Engineers opened its Salt Lake City office, David, along with his wife, Amber, packed up their belongings and their young family and moved to Utah where David managed and grew the fledgling operation.  David has been a major contributor to the growth and success of Wright Engineers, and his expertise, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence have earned him a well-deserved reputation as a trusted professional.

“David’s leadership, technical prowess, and tireless work have left an indelible mark on our company,” said CEO Brent Wright.  “We’re immensely grateful for his invaluable contributions to our company success and wish him and Amber the very best as they embark on the exciting next chapter of their lives.”

Wright Engineers will continue to build upon the solid foundation David has started as it seamlessly transitions to new leadership and carries forward its commitment to delivering structural engineering solutions and services that exceed client expectations.

Wright Engineers is pleased to announce the promotion of Mike Sutton, PE, to the position of Director in its Salt Lake City office.  Mike has been an integral member of the Wright Engineers team since 2005 when he graduated from the University of Utah.  With his extensive experience and expertise in structural engineering, Mike has successfully managed numerous projects and earned the trust of clients and colleagues alike.

“I’m honored to assume the role of Director,” said Mike Sutton. ” I look forward to this new chapter and the challenges and opportunities it will bring.”  David Winn, the retiring VP and Director of Wright Engineers’ Utah Operations, expressed confidence in Mike’s capabilities and the future of the Salt Lake City office.  “Mike’s leadership and people skills make him well-suited for the position.  I have complete confidence in him.”

When he’s not focusing on delivering quality engineering and excellent client service, Mike can usually be found in the nearby Utah mountains skiing, snowboarding, hiking, or biking.
