When Engineering Meets Emergency Response

Wright Engineers structural engineer Leah Holleran is also a structural specialist with Nevada Task Force 1, one of FEMA’s 28 Urban Search & Rescue task forces located across the country. NV-TF1 can be deployed in response to major natural or man-made disasters, bringing together specialists in search, rescue, medicine, hazardous materials, logistics, planning, structural engineering, and other disciplines.

Leah became interested in the program after hearing firsthand accounts from a college professor who responded to 9/11 and later from a former colleague who served on a task force. As a structural specialist, Leah is trained to evaluate damaged structures—from homes and high-rises to bridges—and help determine whether rescuers can safely enter to conduct rescue or recovery operations. She recently completed an intensive weeklong structural specialist training near NASA Ames in Mountain View, California, alongside participants from across the country.

Leah continues a long Wright Engineers tradition of involvement with Nevada Task Force 1. Over the years, a number of our structural engineers have served on the team, including Wright Engineers Founder and CEO Brent Wright. We’re proud of Leah and all those who have volunteered their engineering expertise to help communities when they need it most.

KNOW SOMEONE GREAT? SEND THEM OUR WAY

We’re always interested in adding great people to the Wright Engineers team, and we’re currently looking for talented structural engineers, BIM technicians, and, from time to time, other administrative and support positions in our offices across the country.

Some of our best people have come to us through friends, clients, and colleagues who already know the kind of people they enjoy working with. So if you know someone talented, dependable, and enjoyable to work with, we’d love an introduction—even if they aren’t actively looking. Sometimes great people simply don’t know there may be a better opportunity out there.
